Playing "next to" Brandi Carlile and making it "Little Time"!!!

The Gorge Amphitheater in Washington

The Gorge Amphitheater in Washington

Hello!  Back in Idaho!
I know, some of you never knew we left...but we did!  For a split second, splash in the pan we traveled off to the Gorge Amphitheater in the great state of Washington!
(mini clip of Brandi show: click HERE)
The main motivation was to see our beloved Brandi Carlile and twins as she celebrated her 40 years of life at this dream come true venue she has always wanted to play.

I know the feeling, as she described playing up at the beer gardens 15 years prior at the Gorge.  She told a story about her and the twins scrounging up enough $$ to pay for their sound system and dreaming about the big stage and now she was standing on it!

That must have felt pretty great.  For us, making the "Little Time" has been pretty fun too!  We played at Cave B Winery where the original owners of the Gorge Amphitheater make their wine! The people who created this dream come true, a modern "Walt Disney", a visionary made it possible for all these people to gather up on this cliff side and take in the beauty of the Columbia River while listening to music (and sipping their wine!) Brilliant!  What a vision!
I've been to the Gorge several times to witness Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and the Lilith Fair! And here we were, playing less than a 1/4 mile away from the BIG TIME STAGE!  Ha! What a trip!
We felt truly blessed and we met many Brandi fans which we hope are now our listeners too!
My greatest push during this show was to play a difficult Brandi song called "The Eye".  To...Brandi fans!  "Yikes, better get this right", I thought to myself.  And...they loved it!  Shew! Thank God!
After that song was complete and the audience was content, I elevated the microphone as I think I grew another inch taller.

Then off in the distance that familiar boom of a voice came echoing through the canyon.  Brandi and her band were hitting it on a sound check.  Mo and I looked at each other with a smile.  This might be the closet we get to the "Big Time" and the closest we get to meeting or opening up for Brandi, but we'll take it!

The audience smiled too! They sipped their wine, took in the sights and truly appreciated our "goods".  Couldn't ask for much better than that!  (Well, except for the heat to cool off and the Texas sized mosquitoes not to bite during dusk - and perhaps a 40' RV to climb into with an air conditioner, and large bank roll with a manager to boot, but hey...we are "in the arena" as they say. Sweating it out and giving it our best with all the love we can!)  This "little time" may not be the big time.  Our names may not be known, and if this is as close as we come to that stage...I will always be grateful for all that music has brought to us!

I truly thank our inspirations like Brandi and the many other awesome talents that are out there!  And I am grateful that the "Walt Disney" of the Gorge Amphitheater came up and introduced himself (Vince Bryant) and said, "I've been listening to music for over 40 years, and you two have something very special, just really hits the heart, you are very talented, really...I mean it!"
So I will keep that moment and forgive me if this sounds like I'm bragging. Ya gotta love it when it's good!

And NOW it's back to "work", back to our beloved local scene.  Back to where they know us and call out the set list.  We know your faces and some of your stories...there is nothing "little" about this "little time"...and I thank my lucky stars every day to do what we get to do.  And I thank all of you for your love and support!
